Northern Gas Networks (NGN), the gas distributor for the North of England, is carrying out essential work to ensure the continued safe and reliable supply of gas to customers in Leeds.

The ageing metal pipework is now being replaced by new, more durable plastic pipes, to ensure a safe and reliable supply of gas to customers now while getting the network ready to transport alternative greener fuels such as hydrogen in the future.

The work will start on Wednesday 24th July and last in the area for 6 weeks.

So that engineers can carry out the work safely and efficiently, and to protect the public, the following traffic management will be put in place:

Our works will begin on Shadwell Lane where we will a full road closure allowing access only for Shadwell Medical Centre and Sandringham approach.

As works continue on Shadwell Lane our engineers will begin work on Ring road at the junction of Shadwell Lane. This work will also include a Lane closure affecting traffic Eastbound entering Shadwell Lane from Ring road.

Please be assured we will have a clear signed diversion route in place during this closure. Business’s will remain open as usual during our works taking place.

Billy Harley, Site manager for Northern Gas Networks, said: “We would like to apologise in advance for any inconvenience caused during these essential works. It is vital however, that we complete them in order to continue to maintain a safe and reliable gas supply to the residents in the local area.

“We want to assure residents and road users that we will be working hard to complete this essential scheme as safely and as quickly as possible.”
