Northern Gas Networks (NGN), the gas distribution network for the North of England, is carrying out essential work to ensure the continued safe and reliable supply of gas to customers in Meanwood, Leeds.

The work, which will see a gas pipe diverted along the Meanwood Road, will commence on Wednesday 17 July and is expected to take 21 weeks to complete.

The project has been carefully planned in collaboration with Leeds City Council’s Highways and Parks and Countryside teams and will commence to coincide with the start of the Leeds schools summer holidays, to avoid the busier school term time.

To ensure the safety of our engineers and members of the public, it will be necessary to put the following traffic management measures in place while we work:

  • Two / three-way traffic lights will be introduced on Meanwood Road for the full duration of the works. Lights will be manned between 7am and 7pm, Monday to Friday, to help to manage traffic flow.
  • A road closure will be in place on Busslingthorpe Lane from 17 – 31 July. A clearly signed diversion route will be on display for road users to follow during this time.
  • Access to Woodhouse Ridge will be maintained for members of the public via two entrances. We’ll be installing safety measures, including barriers to ensure that the woodland can still be accessed safely.

While we’ve planned this project to minimise disruption to members of the public as much as possible it is likely the works will result in some delays to journeys so road users are advised to leave extra time for travel.

Access to homes and businesses will remain throughout the work and the gas supply to homes and businesses in the area will not be affected.

Chris Reed, Operations Manager at Northern Gas Networks said: “We know that no one likes roadworks, but this is essential safety driven work to ensure the continued safe and reliable supply of gas to customers in Leeds

“We would like to reassure you that we will be doing everything we can to minimise our impact on the local environment while we work, and we apologise for any inconvenience you may experience during this time. We appreciate your cooperation while we’re working to complete the project as safely and efficiently as possible.”
