Northern Gas Networks (NGN), the gas distributor for the North of England, is carrying out essential work to ensure the continued safe and reliable supply of gas to customers in Stockton.

The ageing metal pipework is being upgraded to ensure the continued safe and reliable supply of gas to customers in the area.

We will start our work at Holburn Park, then move northwards where we will need to close the bus lane to undertake the work safely in the grass verge on the western side of Durham Road.

We will be able to maintain the left turn filter lane onto Hardwick Road, but it will need to be narrowed to allow for a pedestrian walkway. We will be working in this area from 6 May to 24 May.

We will then need to start work from the Hardwick Road roundabout, heading northwards towards the Horse & Jockey roundabout where a contra-flow traffic management system will be in place to maintain two-way traffic.

The full length will not be under a contra-flow system at the same time, it will be moved as when excavations are required and then reinstated. The Durham Road entrance into the petrol station will be maintained. This section is planned between 27  May and 28 June.

The final section will require an inside lane closure on the Horse & Jockey roundabout and one lane closure on each approach to the roundabout. This section is planned between 1 July and 12  July.

Steve Pigott, Business Operations Lead for Northern Gas Networks, said: “We would like to apologise for any inconvenience caused during these essential works. However, it is vital we complete them in order to continue to maintain a safe and reliable gas supply to the residents of Stockton.”

For further information about the work please contact NGN’s Customer Care Team on 0800 040 7766 or email: customercare@northerngas.co.uk.
