The ageing metal pipework is now being replaced by new, more durable plastic pipes, to ensure a safe and reliable supply of gas to customers now while getting the network ready to transport alternative greener fuels in the future.

The work will begin on 26th February 2024 in Balmoral Terrace and the entire project is expected to last approximately 9 weeks. This work has been planned in collaboration with Sunderland City Council.

So that engineers can carry out the work safely and efficiently, and to protect the public, temporary traffic lights will be in place on the junction of Balmoral Terrace and Silksworth Lane from Monday 26th February for approximately two weeks.

There will be a full signage system in place for motorists.

The work will then continue up Sandringham Crescent and Silksworth Road leading to Farringdon. We will then have three way lights at the junction of Allendale Road and Silksworth Road from Monday 8th April for approximately two weeks.

Delays in this area are to be expected at commute times due to the close proximity of Farringdon Comprehensive School and Doxford International Business Park.

The work is due to be completed in its entirety Monday 29th April.
