Northern Gas Networks (NGN), the gas distributor for the North of England, is carrying out essential work to ensure the continued safe and reliable supply of gas to customers in Middlesbrough.
The ageing metal pipework is now being replaced by new, more durable, plastic pipes to ensure a safe and reliable supply of gas to customers now, while getting the network ready for the future.
We expect the work to start on the 8th January 2024 and take approximately 10 weeks to complete. It has been planned in collaboration with Middlesbrough Council.
So that engineers can carry out the work safely and efficiently, and to protect the public, some traffic management measures will be put in place.
We will be starting our work on Marton Road for five weeks, from St John’s Church to the junction of Borough Road. During this period, we will have temporary traffic management in place.
Following this we will be moving on to Newlands Road, we will be working from the junction of Marton Road to number 50 Newlands Road, we will be here for approximately two weeks. During this time there will be a closure at the junction of Newlands Road and Marton Road. Access will be via Southfield Road
We will then be moving to part of Gurney Street to complete work at the Leonardo Hotel. This should be for around one week.
Once the work at the hotel has been complete, we will move to Linthorpe Mews and part of Bolckow Street, this should take approximately two weeks to complete.
Whilst we are on Linthorpe Mews we may need to close the road. We are aware deliveries take place on Linthorpe Mews and we will speak to all businesses before this work starts to discuss how we will manage deliveries and the potential closure.
The final stage of the work will be on Borough Road from the junction of Laurel Road to 93 Borough Road for approximately four weeks, for the duration of this work there will be multiway traffic lights in place.
