Northern Gas Networks (NGN), the gas distributor for the North of England, is carrying out essential work to ensure the continued safe and reliable supply of gas to customers in Burley in Wharfedale.
This is a reinforcement project to upgrade the current gas main to a larger diameter pipe, due to new housing/ property developments in the area. The upgrade is essential to maintain the right levels of gas pressures to residents and businesses.
The work will commence on the 18th September 2023 and is expected to last for approximately five weeks. It has been planned in collaboration with Bradford Metropolitan Council.
To ensure that engineers can carry out the work safely and efficiently, and to protect the public, some traffic management measures will be put in place. We will commence work on Main Street at the junction of Far-Mead Croft and conclude approximately 300 metres in the direction of Ilkley Road, we will be working under 2-way way traffic lights.
To minimise the impact on traffic, traffic management will be manned at peak hours (7am- 7pm) to assist with the flow of traffic when working under temporary traffic lights. Vehicle Management signs will also be in place, providing motorists with advanced notification.
While the majority of the work will be carried out in the street, engineers will need to access customer properties to complete the project and ensure the continued safe and reliable supply of gas.
Chris Green, Business Operations Lead for Northern Gas Networks, said: “We would like to apologise in advance for any inconvenience caused during these essential works, it is vital however that we complete them in order to continue to maintain a safe and reliable gas supply to the residents of Burley in Wharfedale.
“We want to assure residents and road users that we will be working hard to complete this essential scheme as safely and as quickly as possible.”
