Northern Gas Networks (NGN), the gas distributor for the North of England, is carrying out essential work to ensure the continued safe and reliable supply of gas to customers in Stockton on Tees.

The ageing metal pipework is now being replaced by new, more durable, plastic pipes to ensure a safe and reliable supply of gas to customers now, while getting the network ready for the future.

Our work on South Road started on 15th May and was expected to last four weeks, we have encountered some engineering difficulties so we will need to close South Road. This has been planned in collaboration with Stockton on Tees Borough Council.

So that engineers can carry out the work safely and efficiently, and to protect the public, some traffic management measures will be put in place.

As of 30th May 2023, we will need to temporarily close South Road. The road will be closed between the junction of Pine Street and Albany Road for approximately three weeks. There will be a fully signed diversion route in place via Albany Road and Keithlands Avenue.

Following this we will have a closure at the junction of Collins Avenue and South Road for approximately two weeks. There will be a fully signed diversion route in place via Albany Road and Cheshire Road. Please note there will be access to residents only through the road closure.

Steven Storey, Site Manager for Northern Gas Networks, said: “We would like to apologise in advance for any inconvenience caused during these essential works. However, it is vital we complete them in order to continue to maintain a safe and reliable gas supply to the residents of Stockton on Tees.”
