Northern Gas Networks (NGN), the gas distributor for the North of England, is carrying out essential work to ensure the continued safe and reliable supply of gas to customers in Silksworth, Sunderland.

The ageing metal pipework is being replaced by new, more durable plastic pipes, to ensure a safe and reliable supply of gas to customers now while getting the network ready to transport alternative greener fuels in the future.

The work is set to begin mid-July on Silksworth Lane, Sunderland where we will have multi way traffic lights for 4 weeks. This might cause some delays in the area, especially at commute times.

Signs be will displayed for motorists one week prior to work beginning.

Work will then continue into Warden Law Lane and Silksworth Hall Drive for approximately six more weeks. We expect the work to end around mid-September.

Signs will be displayed for motorists and give and take will be required by motorists on Warden Law Lane.

Our Customer Care Officer, Jade Dunn, will be holding a customer drop in at Doxford Community Centre on Saturday 3rd June between 10:00 and 11:30am if anyone would like more information.

Steve Pigott, Business Operations Lead for Northern Gas Networks, said: “We would like to apologise in advance for any inconvenience caused during these essential works. It is vital however, that we complete them in order to continue to maintain a safe and reliable gas supply to the residents of Silksworth.

“We want to assure residents and road users that we will be working hard to complete this essential scheme as safely and as quickly as possible.”

For further information about the work please contact NGN’s Customer Care Team on 0800 040 7766 or email: customercare@northerngas.co.uk.
