Northern Gas Networks (NGN), the gas distributor for the North of England, is carrying out essential work to ensure the continued safe and reliable supply of gas to customers in Ryhope, Sunderland.
The ageing metal pipework is now being replaced by new, more durable plastic pipes, to ensure a safe and reliable supply of gas to customers now while getting the network ready to transport alternative greener fuels in the future.
The work began on 3rd January 2023 in the area and is expected to last until 20th April 2023. It has been planned in collaboration with Sunderland City Council.
So that engineers can carry out the work safely and efficiently, and to protect the public, some traffic management measures will soon need to be put in place.
We are having to erect temporary 3 way traffic lights on Ryhope Street at the entrance of the ASDA carpark from Thursday 23rd March for approximately 3 weeks.
Signs will be displayed for motorists.
Iain Clark, site manager from Northern Gas Networks said: “We want to assure residents and road users that we will be working hard to complete this essential scheme as safely and as quickly as possible.”
