From Monday 20th February the North of England’s gas distributor, Northern Gas Networks (NGN), will be upgrading the gas distribution network on Shaw Lane, Headingley.

The project is part of NGN’s ongoing development of infrastructure and will involve replacing existing metal gas mains with more durable plastic pipes. This will ensure the continued safe and reliable supply of gas to customers in the area for years to come.

The ageing main has undergone several recent emergency repairs, so has now been prioritised for urgent replacement.

The twenty-week project has been planned in conjunction with Leeds city Council. In order for engineers to carry out the work safely and efficiently, and to protect members of the public, temporary 4-way traffic signals will be in place at the junction of Shaw Lane, Otley Road and Burton Crescent for approximately 2 weeks from Monday 20th February. The traffic signals will be monitored for the full duration of the day.

Ben Danby, Site Manager for Northern Gas Networks, said: “We have worked closely with Leeds City Council to plan these essential works. However, some disruption is expected, so we’d like to apologise for any inconvenience customers may encounter and thank everyone for their support as we work to complete this project as safely and quickly as possible.”

For further information about the work please contact NGN’s Customer Care Team on 0800 040 7766 or email: customercare@northerngas.co.uk.
