Northern Gas Networks (NGN), the gas distributor for the North of England, is carrying out essential work to ensure the continued safe and reliable supply of gas to customers in Bedale.

The ageing metal pipework is now being replaced by new, more durable plastic pipes, to ensure a safe and reliable supply of gas to customers now while getting the network ready to transport alternative greener fuels in the future.

The work which has been planned in collaboration with North Yorkshire County Council, began in March and is progressing well and is expected to continue until 9th February 2023.

In order to carry out the latest stage of the work safely and efficiently, and to protect colleagues and members the public, Scroggs Lane will be closed for 19 days from Monday 8th August.

The road closure will include the four-way junction of Scroggs Lane/Masham Road/Watlass Lane and continue down Scroggs Lane to Green Gables Farm and will re-open for August Bank Holiday weekend.

Signs will be displayed for motorists and a full signed diversion put in place.

Once work under the road closure is complete NGN will introduce two-way traffic lights on Masham Road where the road is wider.

James Knox, Business Operations Lead for Northern Gas Networks, said: “We’d like to thank members of public for their patience while we carry out this essential work.  The latest stage of this project has been planned to take place during the school summer holidays at the council’s request to minimise congestion and avoid impacting school traffic.

“We know that nobody likes roadworks and we want to assure residents and road users that we will be working hard to complete this essential scheme as safely and as quickly as possible.”

For further information about the work please contact NGN’s Customer Care Team on 0800 040 7766 or email: customercare@northerngas.co.uk.
