Northern Gas Networks (NGN), the gas distributor for the North of England, is returning to Withernsea for the final phase of its £700k investment programme to replace the ageing metallic gas mains with the more durable plastic mains.

NGN have worked alongside the people of Withernsea over the past three years to upgrade the gas distribution network, and ensure the continued safe and reliable supply of gas to customers in the area for many years to come.

The final phase of work will start on Thursday 7 October 2021 on Station Road, before continuing on Queen Street at Railway Crescent from Monday 11 October. The work is expected to last for six weeks, having been planned in collaboration with East Riding Council.

So engineers can carry out the work safely and efficiently, and to protect members of the public, some traffic management measures will be put in place for part of the project.

From 1 November, access to Pier Road via the junction opposite the hospital will be closed for approximately two weeks with a signed diversion route via Seaside Road.

While the majority of the work will be carried out in the street, engineers will need to access customer properties to complete the project and ensure the continued safe and reliable supply of gas.

Russel Kaye, Business Operations Lead for Northern Gas Networks, said: “We would like to apologise in advance for any inconvenience caused during these essential works. However, it is vital we complete them in order to continue to maintain a safe and reliable gas supply to the residents of Withernsea.

“NGN is continuing to carry out its essential activities while following strict guidelines for safe distance working, where possible, and following good hygiene practices as we continue to live with coronavirus.“We want to assure residents and road users that we will be working hard to complete this essential scheme as safely and as quickly as possible.”

While all of NGN’s work has now resumed, extra safety precautions remain in place to keep everyone safe while we continue to live with Covid-19.
