Northern Gas Networks (NGN), the gas distributor for the North of England, is carrying out essential work to replace the ageing metallic main at Hull Road, Cottingham from Monday, 13 September 2021.
This is the latest phase of a wider investment in the region’s gas infrastructure, to ensure a safe and reliable gas network for Cottingham for many years to come.
The work involves replacing old metallic mains with more durable plastic pipes, along a section of Hull Road, from Outlands Road working towards the mini roundabout at the junction with Thwaite Street.
The project has been planned in collaboration with East Riding Council and is expected to last for approximately nine weeks.
So that engineers can carry out the work safely and efficiently, and to protect the public, some temporary traffic management will be necessary during the project.
This will be introduced from Monday 20th September with rolling two-way lights on the section of Hull Road from the junction of Outlands Road down towards the junction with Inglemire Lane.
These will become four-way lights when teams reach Inglemire Lane, with temporary crossings in place for pedestrians.
For the final phase, three-way lights will be introduced at the roundabout on the junction with Thwaite Street.
While the majority of the work will be carried out in the street, engineers will need to access customer properties to complete the project and ensure the continued safe and reliable supply of gas.
Russel Kaye, Business Operations Lead for Northern Gas Networks, said: “We would like to apologise in advance for any inconvenience caused during these essential works. However, it is vital we complete them in order to continue to maintain a safe and reliable gas supply to the residents of Cottingham.
“NGN is continuing to carry out its essential activities while following strict guidelines for safe distance working, where possible, and following good hygiene practices as we continue to live with coronavirus.“We want to assure residents and road users that we will be working hard to complete this essential scheme as safely and as quickly as possible.”
While all of NGN’s work has now resumed, extra safety precautions remain in place to keep everyone safe while we continue to live with Covid-19.
