Northern Gas Networks (NGN), the gas distributor for the North of England, will be carrying out work to upgrade the gas network in Richmond from September 21.

The project, which will last five weeks, will see the ageing metal pipework replaced by new, more durable plastic pipes, to ensure a safe and reliable supply of gas to customers. The project has been planned in collaboration with North Yorkshire County Council.

Temporary traffic lights will be in place on Bridge Street at the corner of The Green and moving over the bridge on to Slee Gill from 8.00am on Monday 21st September for the duration of the work. Signs will be displayed for motorists.

Steve Pigott, Business Operations Lead for Northern Gas Networks, said: “This project will ensure a safe and reliable gas supply for homes and businesses in Richmond for many years to come.

“We appreciate that nobody likes roadworks, but we can assure road users and residents that our team will be working hard to complete this project as quickly and safely as possible.”

For further information about the work please contact NGN’s Customer Care Team on 0800 040 7766 or email: customercare@northerngas.co.uk.

Northern Gas Networks is continuing to prioritise work in line with UK government health guidance and has extra safety precautions in place to keep everyone safe and ensure that its workplaces are Covid secure.

Engineers will only request entry to a customer’s property if it is absolutely necessary in order to ensure their safety, the continuity of a safe gas supply or at a customer’s request.
