Northern Gas Networks (NGN), the gas distributor for the North of England, is to carry out essential upgrade work to the gas network in Roundhay, Leeds, from August 28.

The ageing metal pipework is to be replaced by new, more durable plastic pipes, to ensure a safe and reliable supply of gas to customers.

The work will start on Friday 28th August and is expected to last for approximately 9 days. It has been planned in collaboration with Leeds City Council.

So that engineers can carry out the work safely and efficiently, and to protect the public, some traffic management measures will be put in place.

Wetherby Road will be closed in both directions from the junction of Princes Avenue to Lady Wood Road.  There will be a diversion in place, which follows Oakwood Lane to Easterly Road and then Wetherby Road.

Signs will be displayed for motorists.

This is the first phase in this project with more works expected at a later date within the area.

James Knox, Business Operations Lead for Northern Gas Networks, said: “This investment will ensure a safe and reliable gas for local businesses and residents for decades to come.

“We appreciate that nobody likes roadworks, but we will be working hard to complete this scheme as safely and as quickly as possible. We’d like to thank motorists for their patience.”
