The north of England’s gas distributer, Northern Gas Networks (NGN), is investing in upgrading the gas distribution network in Bradford to ensure the continued safe and reliable gas supply to homes and businesses in the area for years to come.

Two projects, worth a total of £160k, will be carried out in two separate locations in the city – Great Horton Road and Harrogate Road – and will see a total of 1.4km of old metal gas pipes replaced with new, longer lasting alternatives.

The essential gas mains upgrade has been carefully planned with Bradford Council to minimise any disruption caused for residents, businesses and road users while NGN carry out this work.

Investment in gas pipes in Great Horton Road, starting Friday 25th October:

To complete the works safely and efficiently, there will be two-way temporary traffic lights at 386 Great Horton Road. The work is scheduled to last for approximately two weeks.

Investment in gas pipes in Harrogate Road, starting Saturday 26th October:

So colleagues, road users and the local community are kept safe, there will be four-way temporary traffic lights at the junction of Harrogate Road and New Line. The work is scheduled to last for approximately two weeks.

Josh Hampshire, Business Operations Manager for Northern Gas Networks, said: “Our work in Bradford is essential to keep the gas flowing to homes and businesses in the area and to make sure the gas network is fit for the future.

“Having worked closely with Bradford Council to plan the safest way to complete the work, we hope the traffic lights will allow us to complete the projects with minimal disruption so that we can complete the work as quickly as possible.  We’d like to thank everyone for their patience and support while we carry out this work.”

NGN’s Customer Care Officers have been door-knocking local residents and businesses to make customers aware of the work, while on-site signage will advise motorists of the work taking place. Regular updates will also be available on NGN’s website northerngasnetworks.co.uk, Twitter @NGNgas and Facebook @northerngasnetworks.

Shops and businesses in the area will remain open as usual throughout the project.

For further information about the project please contact NGN’s Customer Care Team on 0800 040 7766 or email: customercare@northerngas.co.uk.
