Work to upgrade the gas distribution network in Spring Road, Market Weighton, to ensure the continued safe and reliable supply of gas to customers in the area for many years to come is entering its final phase.
The £350k upgrade has seen around 4km of new modern plastic pipe installed underground, and engineers are now getting ready to complete the final phase of the project, which will involve connecting properties to the gas main in the street.
In order to complete the next part of the work safely and efficiently, it will be necessary to put some temporary traffic management in place.
From Saturday 6 to Monday 8 April there will be temporary two- way traffic lights on Finkle Street, outside Finkle Court. This will be followed by three-way traffic lights on Market Place at the junction with Londesborough Road from Monday 8 April for up to two weeks.
NGN has worked closely with East Riding County Council to plan the traffic management, which has been arranged to coincide with the school holiday period in order to help keep disruption to a minimum.
Site Manager for the project, Gerry Hart said: “We would like to thank all our customers for their patience whilst we complete these essential works. We know that no one likes roadworks and we are very sorry for the inconvenience caused while we carry out this planned upgrade to the gas pipes.”
NGN is also working in nearby Langdale Road where engineers are replacing around 1.2km of ageing metal gas mains with modern plastic equivalents. Work in Langdale Road is due to be complete by the end of May.
