The north of England’s gas distributer, Northern Gas Networks (NGN), is investing £1.3m to upgrade the gas distribution network in and around Kendall Drive, Castleford.
The project is part of NGN’s ongoing development of infrastructure in the area and involves replacing 12km of existing metal gas mains with more durable plastic pipes, to ensure the continued safe and reliable supply of gas to customers for years to come.
The project, which is expected to take approximately 52 weeks to complete, has been split into 2 phases, both of which are due to start on Monday 1 April. Phase one will begin on Sheepwalk Lane, while phase two beings on Fryston Road.
In order for the works to be carried out safely and efficiently, it will be necessary to introduce traffic management measures to both phases of works within the early stages of the project.
Phase 1
- On Monday 8 April, two-way temporary traffic signals will be introduced onto Sheepwalk Lane between the junction of Smithson Avenue and Monckton Drive. These lights will be manually operated between 7am and 7pm and will remain in position for approximately 2 weeks.
- On Monday 20 May, two way temporary traffic signals will then be re-installed onto Sheepwalk Lane between the junction of Monckton Drive and Poplar Avenue for 1 week, they will then change to four-way lights at the junction of Poplar Avenue for 100m for a further week, before switching back to 2 way lights for a final week ending at the junction of Davis Avenue. All lights will be manually operated between 7am and 7pm.
Phase 2
- On Monday 15 April, two-way temporary traffic signals will be introduced onto Fryston Road at the junction of Park Crescent and will remain in place for approximately 1 week.
All works have been planned in conjunction with Wakefield Council. Russell Kaye Business Lead for East Riding said “We would like to thank all our customers for their patience whilst we complete these essential works. We are sorry for the inconvenience the works will cause’’.
