Northern Gas Networks (NGN), the gas distributor for the North of England, is carrying out essential work to ensure the continued safe and reliable supply of gas to customers in Middlesbrough.

The ageing metal pipework is now being replaced by new, more durable, plastic pipes to ensure a safe and reliable supply of gas to customers now, while getting the network ready to transport alternative fuels in future.

Work is due to start on Monday 5th August and is expected to last for approximately 10 weeks.

The project will begin on Park Road North, working from the junction of Park Vale Road to Linthorpe Road.

Work will then continue past the Cenotaph and on to Park Road South, and this section is expected to take around six weeks to complete. Work will also take place on Granville Road, Albert Terrace, Belk Street, Tennyson Street and Kensington Road.

So that engineers can carry out the work safely and efficiently, and to protect the public, some traffic management measures will be put in place.

From Monday 5th August there will be a road closure on Park Road North from the junction of Linthorpe Road to Park Vale Road. After this section is completed, the road closure will continue on Park Road South at the rear of the Dorman Museum to Albert Gate Apartments.

Access to the buildings between Linthorpe Road and Belk Street can be gained via Woodlands Road, Park Lane and Belk Street.

Access to buildings between Belk Street and Park Vale Road will be via Park Vale Road.

Steven Storey, Site Manager for Northern Gas Networks, said: “We would like to apologise in advance for any inconvenience caused during these essential works. However, it is vital we complete them in order to continue to maintain a safe and reliable gas supply to the residents of Middlesbrough. ”
