Northern Gas Networks (NGN), the gas distributor for the North of England, recently carried out essential work to ensure the continued safe and reliable supply of gas to customers around the Washington area.

We now need to return to the area to reinstate the verges where the work was carried out.

The work will start on Saturday 27th July and be completed on Sunday the 28th July. Work is to be carried out on Castle Road and on the roundabout leading to the Galleries Shopping Centre.

We will be dropping down to one lane on Castle Road roundabout and also on the slip road going onto the Washington Highway Southbound.

There may be some delays in this area over this weekend whilst we carry out these works. We would like to apologise for any inconvenience that might be caused by this work.

Steven Calvert, Site Manager, NGN said: “We would like to apologise in advance for any inconvenience caused during this work.

“We want to assure residents and road users that we will be working hard to complete it as  quickly as possible.”

For further information about the work please contact NGN’s Customer Care Team on 0800 040 7766 or email: customercare@northerngas.co.uk.

Anyone that smells gas or suspects carbon monoxide should call the National Gas Emergency Service immediately on 0800 111 999. This line is in operation 24-hours a day, seven days a week.
