Northern Gas Networks (NGN), the gas distribution network for the North of England, is carrying out essential work to ensure the continued safe and reliable supply of gas to customers in Leeds.
The ageing metal pipework is now being replaced by new, more durable plastic pipes, to ensure a safe and reliable supply of gas to customers now, while getting the network ready to transport alternative greener fuels in the future.
The work, which has been closely planned with Leeds City Council, will start on Horsforth New Road on Monday the 3rd of June and is expected to last for 12 weeks.
So that engineers can carry out the work safely and efficiently, and to protect the public, the following traffic management will be in place:
– A one-way lane closure on the inside lane (affecting both inbound and outbound traffic and from Horsforth) from 9.30am -3.30pm daily.
– As works continue on Horsforth New Road we will then have a contra flow system in place with a speed reduction from 50mph to 30mph.
Rodley Lane will be closed from the junction of Hawthorne Road to outside Oaklands carwash from 24th of June – 5th of July. If travelling from Calverley please allow more time for travel. A diversion will be in place and clearly signed for road users.
- Two-way traffic signals will be in place on Rodley Lane from 2 July which will progress to three-way traffic signals when our team reach the junction of Towngate, Calverley. The lights will be monitored daily from 6.30am – 6.30pm.
Shops and businesses will remain open as usual throughout our work.
Martin Shaw, Site Manager for Northern Gas Networks, said: “We know that no one likes roadworks, and we would like to apologise in advance for any inconvenience caused during these essential works. It is vital however, that we complete them in order to continue to maintain a safe and reliable gas supply to the residents in the local area.
“We want to assure residents and road users that we will be working hard to complete this essential scheme as safely and as quickly as possible.”
