Northern Gas Networks (NGN), the gas distributor for the North of England, is carrying out essential work to ensure the continued safe and reliable supply of gas to customers in Gateshead.
The ageing metal pipework is now being replaced by new, more durable plastic pipes, to ensure a safe and reliable supply of gas to customers now while getting the network ready to transport alternative greener fuels in the future.
The upgrade work which began on Rose Street in July 2023 will continue into 2024 and is expected to be complete by the end of March 2024.
In order to carry out the work safely and protect our engineers and members of the public, Rose Street is temporarily closed. Temporary two-way traffic lights are also in place at Tyne Road East and a diversion is in place via Askew Road West. Access is being maintained for residents and businesses.
Darren Pearson, Site Manager for Northern Gas Networks, said: “We would like to apologise in advance for any inconvenience caused during these essential works. However, it is vital that we carry out this work in order to continue to maintain a safe and reliable gas supply to the residents of Gateshead and the wider network.”
