The ageing main has undergone several recent emergency repairs, so has now been prioritised for urgent replacement. The ageing metal pipework is being replaced by new, more durable plastic pipes, to ensure a safe and reliable supply of gas to customers now, while getting the network ready to transport alternative greener fuels in the future.
The work commenced on the 2nd January 2024 and is expected to last for approximately 12 weeks. It has been planned in collaboration with Bradford Council.
So that engineers can carry out the work safely and efficiently, and to protect the public, some traffic management measures will be put in place.
Works will commence at the junction of Aireworth Road/ Bradford Road under 3- way traffic lights for approximately 3 weeks.
We will then continue working along Aireworth Road to the junction of Aireworth Grove alternating between 2- way and 4 way- way traffic lights for approximately 4 weeks.
We will then return to the Junction of Aireworth Road/ Bradford Road working under 3-way lights for approximately 2 weeks.
We will then return to Aireworth Road and continue working from the junction of Aireworth Grove to Airevalley Road for approximately 4 weeks.
There will be a road closure in place on Aireworth Road from Airevalley Road for approximately 2 weeks.
To minimise the impact on traffic, traffic management will be in place and manned (7am- 7pm) to assist with the flow of traffic when working under temporary traffic lights. A full signed diversion is in place.
Whilst the majority of the work will be carried out in the street, engineers will need to access customer properties to complete the project and ensure the continued safe and reliable supply of gas. Our customer care team is contacting households affected.
Chris Green, Business Operations Lead for Northern Gas Networks, said: “We would like to apologise in advance for any inconvenience caused during these essential works. However, it is vital we complete them in order to continue to maintain a safe and reliable gas supply to the residents of Keighley.”
“We want to assure residents and road users that we will be working hard to complete this essential scheme as safely and as quickly as possible.”
