Northern Gas Networks (NGN), the gas distributor for the North of England, is carrying out essential work to ensure the continued safe and reliable supply of gas to customers in Normanton.

The ageing metal pipework is now being replaced by new, more durable plastic pipes, to ensure a safe and reliable supply of gas to customers now while getting the network ready to transport alternative greener fuels in the future.

The work will start on Saturday 28th October and take approximately 10 days to complete. It has been planned in collaboration with Wakefield Council.

So that engineers can carry out the work safely and efficiently, and to protect the members of the public, some traffic management measures will be put in place.

From Saturday 28th October there will be four- way temporary traffic lights at the crossroads on Queen Street and High Street. There will also be a part-road closure on Princess Street; traffic will be able to access Princess Street from High Street however they won’t be able to access High Street from Princess Street. These will be in place until 7pm on Wednesday 1st November.

From Thursday 2nd November there will be temporary traffic lights on High Street, from the junction of Princess Street to The Grove. There will also be a part-road closure on The Grove; traffic will be able to access The Grove from High Street however they won’t be able to access High Street from The Grove. These will be in place until Sunday 5th November.

Advance warning signs will be displayed prior to works starting.

Chris Nevison, Business Operations Lead for Northern Gas Networks, said: “We would like to apologise in advance for any inconvenience caused during these essential works. However, it is vital that we complete them in order to continue to maintain a safe and reliable gas supply to the residents of Normanton.”
