Northern Gas Networks (NGN), the gas distributor for the North of England, is carrying out essential work to ensure the continued safe and reliable supply of gas to customers in Darlington.

The ageing metal pipework is now being replaced by new, more durable, plastic pipes to ensure a safe and reliable supply of gas to customers now, while getting the network ready for the future.

Major gas mains replacement work will be starting in and around Darlington Town Centre on the 24th July and lasting for approximately 15 weeks. This has been planned in collaboration with Darlington Borough Council.

So that engineers can carry out the work safely and efficiently, and to protect the public, some traffic management measures will be put in place.

As of the 24th July our work will be starting on John Street with multi way lights at the junction of Valley Street North for approximately three weeks. We will then be moving on to Russell Street for approximately two weeks with multi way lights at the junction of Valley Street North. Following this we will be moving to Northgate roundabout for approximately three weeks with a lane closure around the roundabout. As of the 18th September we will be working on Crown Street for approximately two weeks with a junction closure on to Quebec Street.  Please allow extra time for your journey

Jack Hepplewhite, Site Manager for Northern Gas Networks, said: “We would like to apologise in advance for any inconvenience caused during these essential works. However, it is vital we complete them in order to continue to maintain a safe and reliable gas supply to the residents of Darlington.”

For further information about the work please contact NGN’s Customer Care Team on 0800 040 7766 or email: customercare@northerngas.co.uk.
