Northern Gas Networks (NGN), the gas distributor for the North of England, is carrying out essential upgrade work to ensure the continued safe and reliable supply of gas to customers in Bradford.

The ageing metal pipework is now being replaced by new, more durable plastic pipes, to ensure a safe and reliable supply of gas to customers now, while getting the network ready to transport alternative greener fuels in the future.

The works will commence on 8th May 2023 and are due to be completed by 4th June 2023, they are expected to last for approximately 5 weeks. It has been planned in collaboration with Bradford Council.

So that engineers can carry out the work safely and efficiently, and to protect the public, some traffic management measures will be put in place during the project.

The works will start on Little Horton Lane from the junction of Nurser Lane and conclude at the junction (mini roundabout) of Horton Park Avenue. Works will be done over 4 phases, working under 2-way and 3-way temporary traffic lights.

There will be some minor road closures introduced to some residential side streets for a couple of weeks at a time through the duration of these works, (Nurser Lane, Louis Avenue, Stowell Mill Street, Holme Street and Chapel Street).

Traffic will divert onto Central Avenue for Nurser Lane and Louis Avenue and onto Holme Top Lane/ Park Lane for Holme Street and Chapel Street, a fully signed diversion will be put in place and displayed for motorists

To minimise the impact on road users, the 2-way and 3-way temporary lights will be manned at peak hours between 7am and 7pm, to ensure a smooth flow of traffic.

While majority of the work will be carried out in the street, engineers will need to access some customer properties to complete the project and ensure the continued safe and reliable supply of gas.

Chris Green, Business Operations Lead for Northern Gas Networks, said: “We would like to apologise in advance for any inconvenience caused during these essential works. However, it is vital we complete them in order to continue to maintain a safe and reliable gas supply to the residents of Bradford.

“We want to assure residents and road users that we will be working hard to complete this essential scheme as safely and as quickly as possible.”
