The North of England’s gas distributer, Northern Gas Networks (NGN), is currently carrying out emergency repair works on a gas main at Kirkgate, Wakefield.
In order to carry out the work safely and efficiently, a number of important traffic management measures are taking place.
Firstly, Sun Lane and Kirkgate will be closed in one direction, creating a diversion along Marsh Way. The aim is to keep George Street flowing with the use of manned traffic lights. However, if this becomes impossible due to the nature of the work, engineers will need to introduce a further one way closure, using Ings Road as a diversion.
Denby Dale Road will remain open for the time being, but in around four weeks time, when the replacement works have progressed, it will need to be closed for approximately three weeks, with traffic diverted via Ings Road.
Matt Pursell Site Manager at Northern Gas Networks said: “The safety of members of the public is our first priority and we would like to thank customers for bearing with us while we carry out this essential repair work.
“We’d like to apologise for any inconvenience caused to motorists and members of the public but be assured that we are working as quickly and safely as we can to repair the gas main.”
