Northern Gas Networks (NGN), the gas distributor for the North of England, is carrying out essential work to ensure the continued safe and reliable supply of gas to customers in Darlington.
The ageing metal pipework is now being replaced by new, more durable, plastic pipes to ensure a safe and reliable supply of gas to customers now, while getting the network ready for the future.
The work on Bondgate and Portland Place will start on 2nd May and is expected to last for four weeks. It has been planned in collaboration with Darlington Borough Council.
So that engineers can carry out the work safely and efficiently, and to protect the public, some traffic management measures will be put in place.
As of the 2nd May we will have a lane closure on Bondgate from Bondgate roundabout to the junction of Portland Place, with no turning on to Portland place from Bondgate or Woodland Road.
There will be a one-way closure on Portland Place from the junction of Bondgate to Larchfield Street but the public will be able to travel north on Portland place to the junction of Bondgate and Woodlands Road as normal.
Harry Temple, Site Manager for Northern Gas Networks, said: “We would like to apologise in advance for any inconvenience caused during these essential works. However, it is vital we complete them in order to continue to maintain a safe and reliable gas supply to the residents of Darlington.”
