Northern Gas Networks (NGN), the gas distributor for the North of England, is carrying out essential work to ensure the continued safe and reliable supply of gas to customers in Main Road, High Harrington, Workington.
The ageing metal pipework is now being replaced by new, more durable plastic pipes, to ensure a safe and reliable supply of gas to customers now while getting the network ready to transport alternative greener fuels in the future.
So that engineers can carry out the work safely and efficiently, and to protect the public, some traffic management measures will be put in place during the works.
Due to the nature of the work, temporary traffic lights have been erected on High Harrington Road on 23rd January. From 30th January it will be necessary to introduce a southbound one-way system from The Kiln Green/Main junction down towards The Brewery pub road for a 5-week period. This traffic management has been put in place in collaboration with Cumbria County Council.
Signs will be displayed for motorists and a full signed diversion put in place.
While the majority of the work will be carried out in the street, engineers will need to access customer properties to complete the project and ensure the continued safe and reliable supply of gas.
Local businesses however, including The Brewery Inn Pub and The Galloping Horse on Main Road, High Harrington, will still be open for business as usual.
Dean Fuller, Business Operations Lead for Northern Gas Networks, said: “We would like to apologise in advance for any inconvenience caused during these essential works. However, it is vital we complete them in order to continue to maintain a safe and reliable gas supply to the residents of Carlisle.
“We want to assure residents and road users that we will be working hard to complete this essential scheme as safely and as quickly as possible.”
