Northern Gas Networks (NGN), the North of England’s gas distributor, is carrying out essential repair work today, to fix a gas escape located on the B6323 Ponteland Road, Heddon-on-the-Wall near Newcastle.

The work will involve repairing a medium pressure gas main located under the highway, in order to continue the safe and reliable supply of gas to the area, and is expected to continue throughout today and into this evening.

To protect engineers and members of the public, two-way temporary lights will be introduced on Ponteland Road. It’s likely these will add time on to journeys, so motorists are advised to leave extra time for travel.

Michael Pratt, Business Operations manager at Northern Gas Networks, said: “We apologise for any inconvenience customers may experience however this is essential repair work and the safety of our customers and engineers is our number one priority.

“We would like to thank customers for their patience as we work to complete the repair as safely and as quickly as possible.”
