Northern Gas Networks (NGN), the gas distributor for the North of England, is carrying out emergency repair works at Birchington Avenue, South Shields.
In order for engineers to carry out the work safely and efficiently, and to protect teams and the public, a temporary road closure has been introduced on Birchington Avenue from the junction of Ashton Street and Alverthorpe Street. A diversion has been put in place and no residential gas supplies will be affected.
Andy Coates, for Northern Gas Networks, said: “We would like to apologise in advance for any inconvenience caused during these essential works.
“However, it is vital we complete them to continue to maintain a safe and reliable gas supply to the residents of South Shields.
“We want to assure residents and road users that we will be working hard to complete this repair as safely and as quickly as possible and thank customers for their patience in the meantime.
