Engineers from Northern Gas Networks (NGN), the gas distributor for the North of England, are currently on site at Bawtry Road in Selby, carrying out emergency repairs to a medium pressure gas main.

Local gas supplies to nearby homes have not been affected, but there is currently a strong smell of gas in the surrounding area.

Chris Reed, Business Operations Manager for NGN said: “We are on site working to complete the repair as quickly and safely as we can, however there is a strong smell of gas.

“Although it’s likely that a lot of customers in Selby will smell this today, we will always respond to a smell of gas and would always encourage anyone who smells gas or who suspects carbon monoxide to call the National Gas Emergency Service immediately to report it on 0800 111 999.

“This line is in operation 24 hours a day, seven days a week.”
