Northern Gas Networks (NGN), the gas distributor for the North of England, is carrying out gas mains diversion work on Otley Road, to ensure the continued safe and reliable supply of gas to customers in Harrogate.
The project to safely divert the gas pipework on Otley Road is taking place in order to allow North Yorkshire County Council to make future improvements to the highway.
The work began on Monday 2nd August, and is expected to last for five weeks. It has been planned in collaboration with North Yorkshire County Council.
So engineers can carry out the work safely and efficiently, and to protect members of the public, some traffic management measures will be put in place.
For the full duration of the project, temporary traffic lights will be in place on Otley Road. These are located at the crossroads of Harlow Moor Road and Hill Rise Avenue, and manually controlled between 7am and 7pm to ensure a smooth flow of traffic.
Shops and businesses in the area will remain open as usual while the work is underway.
To ensure the safety of colleagues, customers and the community, the majority of the work is being carried out in the highway, following Government guidelines for safe distance working wherever possible. There are also extra safety measures in place to keep everyone safe and ensure that the work is Covid 19 secure.
Scott Kitchingman, Business Operations Lead for Northern Gas Networks, said: “We would like to apologise in advance for any inconvenience caused during these diversion works
“NGN is continuing to carry out essential activities while following strict Government guidelines for safe distance working and observing health and safety guidance during the current coronavirus outbreak in England.
“We want to assure residents and road users that we will be working hard to complete this scheme as safely and as quickly as possible.”
