Northern Gas Networks (NGN), the gas distributor for the North of England, is carrying out essential gas work in Roundhay Park Lane, Leeds from June 29, 2020.
The project involves replacing 700m of old metal gas main with brand-new plastic pipes to reinforce the gas supply to homes and business in the area.
The ageing gas main has undergone several recent emergency repairs, so has now been prioritised for urgent replacement.
The nine-week project will see Roundhay Park Lane closed from June 29. Signs will be displayed for motorists and a full signed diversion put in place via Shadwell Lane, Birchwood Road and Ring Road. The work has been planned in conjunction with Leeds City Council.
The majority of the work will be carried out in the street, observing strict Government guidelines for safe distance working wherever possible and following health and safety guidance.
Northern Gas Networks is continuing to prioritise work in line with UK government health guidance and has extra safety precautions in place to keep everyone safe and ensure that its workplaces are Covid secure.
James Knox, Business Operations Lead for Northern Gas Networks, said: “This work is essential to maintain a safe and reliable gas supply to the residents of Shadwell in Leeds. We’ll be carrying out the work safely, observing Government guidelines, and with full consideration for local people.
“We know roadworks are never welcome, but this work will ensure a safe and reliable gas supply for decades to come.”
As well as critical services, which include responding to gas emergencies, carrying out emergency repairs and critical maintenance activities, engineers from Northern Gas Networks are carrying out work to upgrade critical infrastructure, including planned work to modernise ageing metal gas mains, where the majority of the work can be carried out safely in the street.
Entry to customers’ properties is only being requested if it is absolutely necessary in order to ensure their safety, the continuity of a safe gas supply or at a customer’s request.
