The North of England’s gas distributer, Northern Gas Networks (NGN), will be carrying out essential repair work at the roundabout of York Road, Hartlepool from April 14.

This work involves replacing a 90 metre section of old metal gas pipe, which is prone to leaks, to reinforce the local network and ensure smooth running of the local gas service.

The work has been carefully planned with Hartlepool Borough Council and will last approximately 8 weeks.

In order to carry out the repairs safely and efficiently, it will be necessary to implement junction closures on the roundabout of Stockton/Burns Road and Blakelock Gardens from 14th April 2020. A fully signed diversion will be in place. Temporary traffic lights will also be on York Road for the duration of the work.

Although the majority of NGN’s planned work has been suspended during the Coronavirus outbreak, the company is still carrying out essential repair and maintenance work, to ensure the smooth running of the gas network. NGN also continues to provide its 24 hour emergency gas response service.

All essential work is being carried out while observing strict guidelines for safe distance working during the Coronavirus outbreak.

Paul Gordon, Site Manager for Northern Gas Networks said: “We have worked closely with Hartlepool Borough Council to plan this essential work. Everything is being done to ensure the safety of our workers and the public during the work, in line with Government and health guidelines.

“We are committed to ensuring the smooth running of the gas network during this challenging time, and to keeping our customers and colleagues safe.

“Under normal circumstances, this job would be very disruptive to local traffic, due to the junction closures – but clearly, the traffic impact will be much less severe during the lockdown. Motorists who do still have to travel this route should please be aware of the diversion that will be in place. Our apologies for any inconvenience this may cause.”
