A customer group which is helping to shape the future of energy provision in the North of England is calling for new members.

The Customer Engagement Group, an independent group which works alongside Northern Gas Networks (NGN), the region’s gas distributor, is now recruiting.

The Customer Engagement Group comprises a diverse group of individuals, all with different skills and life experiences. The group is responsible for ensuring NGN provides a green-minded, value-for-money service to its 2.7 million customers. Members have the opportunity to scrutinise NGN’s work and provide input that can help shape the delivery of key services, such as green energy, tackling fuel poverty and modernising the gas network.

The group was originally established to provide input during the creation of NGN’s ambitious 2021-2026 business plan, which will see an 8.6% reduction in customer bills and an £800 million investment into the gas network. Members will now ensure NGN delivers its business plan promises to customers over the next few years.

Jenny Saunders CBE, Chair of the Customer Engagement Group, said: “Members of the Customer Engagement Group have an opportunity to ensure NGN fulfils its commitments to its customers in Yorkshire and Humber, the North East and Cumbria.

“We are now seeking to refresh our group for the next phase of scrutiny and challenge. If you are passionate about how future energy systems will deliver the best social, environmental and economic outcomes for the region, we would like to hear from you.”

The Customer Engagement Group is particularly keen to receive applications from individuals with expertise or knowledge in any of the following areas: environmental improvement and decarbonisation; future energy; social inclusion and fuel poverty; regulatory policy; public policy; finance and commercial strategy or asset management.

Members are expected to serve for a term of three years. Duties include attendance at meetings and events totaling up to 12 days each year. Remuneration for members’ time is provided.
