Northern Gas Networks (NGN), the North of England’s gas distributor, will be carrying out essential gas mains repairs on the north-bound A1, at the exit approach to junction 70/Whickham/Dunston.
Due to the location of the gas main, and to protect members of the public and engineers during the works, it will be necessary to close the inside lane of the A1, on the approach to the slip road from 9pm on Monday 10th February until 6am the next morning.
This overnight work will continue each night through to Friday 14th February, which is expected to be the last overnight shift. The two outside lanes of the A1 will be unaffected.
Mark Watson, Site Manager at Northern Gas Networks, said: “The safety of our customers and engineers is our number one priority, and closing this lane is essential in ensuring the public and our workforce stay safe at all times.
“We would like to thank customers for their patience at this time and apologise for any inconvenience experienced. We will keep businesses and road users updated throughout the work.”
