The North of England’s gas distributor, Northern Gas Networks (NGN), is investing £100k to upgrade the gas distribution network at North Park Road in Harrogate.

The project is part of NGN’s ongoing investment in the gas infrastructure in the area and involves replacing 250m of existing metal gas mains with more durable plastic pipes. This work will not only keep the gas supply flowing safely and reliably today, but it will ensure that the network is ready to deliver reliable and affordable green energy in future.

The project is due to start on Monday 17 February 2020 and is expected to take a total of six weeks to complete.

In order for the work to be carried out safely and efficiently, it will be necessary to carry out the work in two phases:

  • The first phase will start on Queen Parade at the junction with Victoria Avenue, and finish on North Park Road at the junction with Marlborough Road. On this section of road, there will be a closure in place for the first three weeks of the project. East Park Road will remain open and we will maintain access for residents only.
  • Once this closure has been lifted, the second phase of the project will begin. On North Park Road, at the junction with Marlborough Road to the roundabout on Station Avenue, another road closure will be put in place for a further three weeks. There will also be four-way temporary traffic lights on the roundabout during this time. Again, during this closure there will be access for residents.

It is expected that journey times will be longer while the closure and temporary traffic signals are in place, so motorists are advised to allow extra time for travel.

All works have been planned in collaboration with Harrogate Borough Council.

Chris Cunniff, Site Manager for Northern Gas Networks, said: “We’d like to apologise for any inconvenience customers may encounter and thank everyone for their continued support as we work to complete this project as safely and quickly as possible.”

Shops and businesses in the area will remain open as usual while the work is underway.

NGN’s Customer Care Officers have been door-knocking local residents and businesses to make customers aware of the work, while on-site signage will advise motorists of the work taking place. Regular updates will also be available on NGN’s website at northerngasnetworks.co.uk, on Twitter @NGNgas and on Facebook @northerngasnetworks.
