Northern Gas Networks (NGN), the gas distributor for the North, is carrying out an essential upgrade to the gas distribution network at Newlands Gardens, Ashfield Road and Moorfield Avenue in Workington.

The project is part of NGN’s ongoing investment in the gas infrastructure in the area and involves replacing more than 3.5 kilometres of existing metal gas pipes with more durable plastic ones. This will ensure the continued, safe and reliable supply of gas to customers in the area for years to come.

The 24-week project will begin on Wednesday 7th August, having been carefully planned in conjunction with Cumbria County Council.

In order to carry out the work as safely and efficiently as possible, it will be necessary to introduce some traffic management on Ashfield Road at a later stage of the project.

Temporary lights will be placed on Ashfield Road from early October, and are expected to be in place for around four weeks.

A customer drop in meeting to talk more about the works is being held at Moorclose Community Centre, Needham Drive, on Monday 5th August between 5-7pm.

The session is a chance for residents and businesses to meet the team carrying out the work, learn more about the project and ask any questions.

Richie Manuel, Business Operational Leader for Northern Gas Networks, said: “We have been working closely with Cumbria County Council to carefully plan these works and will be doing all we can to minimise disruption to customers.

“We’d like to apologise for any inconvenience customers may encounter and thank everyone for their support as we work to complete this project as safely and quickly as possible.”

NGN’s Customer Care team will be visiting homes and businesses in the area to talk more about the works, and will provide regular updates on the project through at www.northerngasnetworks.co.uk, @NGNgas and Facebook.com/northerngasnetworks

For further information about the project please contact NGN’s Customer Care Team on 0800 040 7766 or email: customercare@northerngas.co.uk.
