Northern Gas Networks (NGN), the North of England’s gas distributer, is carrying out an essential upgrade to the gas distribution network at Elmfield Park, Gosforth.
The work involves replacing old metal gas mains with new plastic pipes, to ensure the safe, continued and reliable supply of gas to customers in the area for years to come.
As work has progressed, engineers have identified an additional gas main which has now been prioritised for replacement, to minimise any future disruption to local customers.
This work is expected to last for approximately two weeks, having been carefully planned in close conjunction with Newcastle City Council.
In order to protect engineers and members of the public, it will be necessary to introduce some traffic management during this time.
From Thursday 20 June, Elmfield Road will be closed from the junction of Kenton Road roundabout for approximately two weeks. Access for residents will be maintained from High Street, Gosforth and a signed diversion is in place for motorists.
It’s expected the works will extend journey times, so motorists are advised to leave extra time for travel whilst the traffic management is in place.
Phil Crow, Site Manager for Northern Gas Networks, said: “The safety of our customers and engineers is our number one priority, and the traffic management is essential in ensuring the public and our workforce stay safe at all time.
“We would like to thank our customers for their patience at this time and apologise for any inconvenience they may experience. We will keep customers updated throughout the work as we look to finish as safely and quickly as possible.”
