Northern Gas Networks (NGN), the North of England’s gas distributer, will begin essential gas mains repair work on Kingsway South, Gateshead from Tuesday 28th May 2019 until Friday 31st May 2019.
Engineers have been closely monitoring a controlled gas escape located at the Coalhouse roundabout at Team Valley Trading Estate, Gateshead.
The work has been carefully planned in collaboration with Gateshead Council to minimise disruption to customers and road users. In order for engineers to complete the work as safely and quickly as possible, it will be necessary for NGN teams to work in the road.
Therefore, the road will be reduced to one lane at the roundabout and on Kinsgway South (Southbound).
Road users can avoid delays southbound by taking an alternative route via the Lobley Hill roundabout.
Darren Pearson, Site Manager at Northern Gas Networks, said: “The safety of our customers and engineers is our number one priority, and closing the inside lane is essential in ensuring the public and our workforce stay safe at all times.
“We would like to thank customers for their patience at this time and apologise for any inconvenience experienced. We will keep businesses and road users updated throughout the work.”
