The north of England’s gas distributer, Northern Gas Networks (NGN), is investing £622k to upgrade the gas distribution network in and around Bailey Crescent, South Elmsall.

The project is part of NGN’s ongoing development of infrastructure in the area and involves replacing 6 kilometres of existing metal gas mains with more durable plastic pipes, to ensure the continued safe and reliable supply of gas to customers for years to come.

The work, which is expected to take approximately 45 weeks to complete, will begin on Wynford Drive on Monday 8 April, and will progress around the surrounding areas.

As agreed with Wakefield Council, the sections of work expected to take place near Ash Grove Primary Academy and Minsthorpe Community College will be completed during school holidays to minimise disruption for customers.

In order for the work to be carried out safely and efficiently, it will be necessary to introduce a number of traffic management measures.

A road closure will be introduced on Upper Ash Grove on Monday 29 April and remain in place for approximately three weeks.  Access will be provided for residents only.

On Monday 27 May, two way temporary traffic lights will be introduced onto Ash Grove between the junction of Bailey Crescent and Hutton Drive and will remain in place for approximately three weeks.

As works continue, further traffic management measures will be required. Northern Gas Networks will update on these measures as the project progresses.

All works have been planned in conjunction with Wakefield Council.

Russell Kaye, Business Operations Lead for East Riding said: “We would like to thank all our customers for their patience whilst we complete these essential works. We are sorry for any inconvenience this may cause and thank customers for bearing with us as we look to complete the project as safely and quickly as possible.”

For further information about the project please contact NGN’s Customer Care Team on 0800 040 7766 or email: customercare@northerngas.co.uk.
