The North of England’s gas distributor, Northern Gas Networks (NGN), will be investing £175, 000 to upgrade the gas distribution network at York Road, Knaresborough.

The project is part of NGN’s ongoing investment in the gas infrastructure in the area to ensure the continued, safe and reliable supply of gas to customers in the area for years to come.

The project has been carefully planned in conjunction with North Yorkshire County Council to minimise any disruption caused.

Works started on Monday 7 January 2019 and are scheduled to last for approximately twelve weeks.  In order for works to be carried out safely and efficiently, it will be necessary to implement various traffic management measures at various stages throughout the duration of works.

During the first phase of works, temporary 2-way traffic lights will be in situ on Chain Lane   The traffic lights will be in place at the junction of Mayfield Grove and will progress down Chain Lane towards York Lane.

During the ninth week of works, which will be week commencing Monday 11 March 2019, four-way traffic signals will be in place at the junction of York Road and York Lane.

On the tenth week of works, week commencing Monday 18 March 2019, four-way traffic lights will be in place on York Road.  During week eleven, from Monday 25 March 2019, four-way traffic signals will be in situ on York Road at the junction of Chain Lane.

It’s expected these works will extend journey times, so motorists are advised to leave extra time for travel whilst the temporary traffic signals are in place.

NGN’s Customer Care Officers have been door-knocking local residents and businesses to make customers aware of the work, while on-site signage will advise motorists of the work taking place. Shops and businesses in the area will remain open as usual throughout the project.

“We’d like to apologise for any inconvenience customers may encounter and thank everyone for their support as we work to complete this project as safely and quickly as possible.”
