The north of England’s gas distributer, Northern Gas Networks (NGN), is investing £500k to upgrade the ageing gas distribution network in and around the Drighlington area of Leeds.

The major project, which commenced in August, is part of NGN’s ongoing development of infrastructure in Drighlington and will involve replacing 600m of existing metal gas mains with more durable plastic pipes, to ensure the continued safe and reliable supply of gas to customers in the area for years to come.

Work is progressing well on the first phase of works, around the junction of Old Lane and Whitehall Road.

From Monday 12 November, engineers will begin work at the junction of King Street and Whitehall Road for approximately four weeks. During this time it will be necessary to install temporary four way traffic signals which will be monitored daily from 7am-7pm.

Due to the diameter of the gas main that is being replaced it will be necessary to carry out further work  on Whitehall Road from the junction of King Street to New Lane. This phase of the work is expected to be completed at the end of December. Whilst this work is ongoing, it will be necessary to install two-way traffic signals which will be monitored daily from 7am- 7pm.

Our essential work will return to Drighlington in January 2019 to complete the final two phases of work on Whitehall Road.

Matty Mcbride, Business Operations Lead for Northern Gas Networks, said: “We would like to apologise in advance for any inconvenience caused during these works, and thank our customers for their patience and support while we complete them as quickly as possible.”

Local residents are invited to come along to our community drop-in event at St Pauls Church, Whitehall Road, on Friday 2nd November from 12-2pm to meet the team, find out more about our work and ask any questions.

For further information about the project please contact NGN’s Customer Care Team on 0800 040 7766 or email: customercare@northerngas.co.uk.
